Sweet surprise

General discussions. Politics, scuttlebutt, whatever: you're getting married, changing jobs, got a gripe or a compliment, dying to get out with the bow etc.....

Sweet surprise

#1 Post by Stephen Georgiou » Mon Jul 20, 2009 11:04 am

I had the pleasure of shooting a new bow that belongs to a young lass yesterday. This bow was made by Steve Farrell and purchased through Wildwood archery. It was a 38lb @28" longbow that totally caught me by surprise  This little bow was fast, smooth to draw and felt great in the hand. The reason for the surprise was that even with such a light poundage the arrows, which by the way where not matched to the bow on purpose, flew beautifully. So, anyone looking for a bow should not overlook Australian Bowyers.
I am just about to recieve a bow from Norseman Bows "Nick Lintern" aptly names "The Barbarian" which is a reverse handle long bow that was first made by a request from Robert McKenzie. My bow will be number 3 of this type of bow that Nick has made and from all reports will be a real gem. So again, do not overlook the Aussie option as real men making real bows is the way to go. 8)

Agree Stephen.

There are a number of awesome bowyers out there.
Getting a custom made version is even better.
My second longbow was one of Steve Farrell's [one of first sales]
His bamboo laminated bows are quick, very light and a joy to use.
Good on Wildwood too for supporting and promoting local bowyers.

Good to hear Stephen, there are some great Aussie bow makers around and it is good to see them being supported.

Hi Stephen, The bow you shot would be one of Stephen Jawerths and I agree they are nice bows.
I look forward to seeing Nick Linterns forward handle bow when you recieve it :) .

I can say that I've had the pleasure of shooting longbow steve's, Steve Jarwerth's and Greybeard's bows they were all excellent bows and certainly world class. 8)

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.
