Where is the media attacking the Game Council?
I heard the interview today on the ABC and must say it was a win for the GC. The AWU rep was an idiot. Steve

I do not see this as an attack. If anything it is very positive.

OK, at the start of January this year was the "Walkers pay price for hunters" article from fairfax, claiming they had contacted the insurance company that covers bushwalking clubs and "The broker, Marsh, said insurance companies would think twice about offering cover or ''load the premium'' for walkers."
http://www.smh.com.au/environment/conse ... 2c9xh.html
The GC put out a press release saying they had spoken to Marsh and nobody at the company had actually been contacted by the media

Then a couple of weeks later were the illegal hunting allegations (see the other thread)

And now the coverage of minors hunting with headlines like "12 year olds with a license to kill", printing statements like:
"We all know that children - even when supervised by their parents - can sometimes be a little difficult to control, so if you've got a lethal weapon in the hands of a child ... you've got an accident waiting to happen." from the NPW CEO.

I saw "7.30 Report" on ABC last night, talking about how hunters shouldn't be allowed in national parks in NSW.
It was very one-sided, so much so that I was disappointed even already knowing that ABC was left-leaning.
- No mention of successful Nat Parks hunting in other states
- no interviews with anyone in favour of this, except an attack on the Game Council where they were asked loaded questions and not permitted to answer
- no facts/hard numbers
- lots of fear mongering

Loaded questions, and creative editing.
Last night on the ABC the 7.30 report interviewed John Mumford and asked him "Is it possible to get a licence to hunt in a national park without ever having fired a rifle?", To which he replied "well, yes" and was promptly cut off before he could explain further.
The implication put forward by the 7.30 report is that people who have never shot a rifle will get a permit and learn to shoot once they are in the national park. The anti web pages are full of this rubbish already. Anybody who owns a rifle will know this is just horse manure.
