I just gotta.. -UPDATE on pg. 1
.....brag a little
was at a 3D Tournament last Saturday. As i had neglected my bow for nearly 4 busy weeks i went there just for fun and as a little training for this Saturday and my next Tournament.
It was a great day, very relaxed and fairly warm with 5°C (we had -14 for a few weeks).
Well, in the end i made 2nd best with 458 out of 560 points, only one better was with a metal riser, arrow rest, plunger and 4-5gpp arrows.
Please dont get me wrong, dont wanna blow my own horn but im so happy with this result i had just to share.
For a little compensation i have some pics to show:
a few shot situations:
that little gully in front of the Stegaosaurus was wicked for distance judgement:
another interesting gully:
She finished that Selfbow 3 days before the tournament
this one caught my eye:
sometimes it works quite well:
other times it dont:
These birds are supposed to flap over when you hit em. as long as you dont nail em tight with the first arrow and hit with the second like i did .
If any of you camera-wizzards have some hints or tips to share what to do better or how to improve the pics please feel free to do so!
Thanks for looking,
Axel

Quality post mate
I cant say I shoot that well
Thanks for the pickies, it looks cold even at 5 let alone -14
You've gotta love the spirit having a go in that kind of cold, did anyone use pocket warmers to stop the sore fingers?

On cold frosty mornings it is still like getting the cane at school, but the cold I am used to is nothing like what you have, and I don't mind the cold either I could forgive even some of the more weather toughened archers a pocket warmerg_r wrote:pocket warmers at +5? youre kidding

Great shooting g-r! If i lived in that weather you have I would never leave my bed! Can handle any amount of heat but detest cold. Again great shooting and well done.

I reckon you should blow your own horn all you like, Axel! You did really well mate, and good onya!
You've earned a good blow! ( ... )
Not only did you get second, but to turn up in that kind of cold?
No-one can question the dedication of German archers, that's for sure!

Thanks for the congrats!
Tomorow is the next Tournament and i hope it works out equally good. Ill take lots of pics as i think it will get pretty interesting......there will be alot of horsebow guys, some Middle-ages archers with ELBs and the club holding the Tournament is known for very challenging and arrow-breaking shot situations.
As sad as it is i cant show pictures of me bowhunting here, i hope those little tournament reports of mine arent too boring instead. So, stay tuned, thers more to come

Re: I just gotta.....
Ok, you cant say i didnt warn you .
Its been a great day again. Completely different setting, different people, different targets...same old good feeling being out enjoying archery
Wont tell a long story, just some pics for you:
The tournament was embedded in a medival town festival, so there were alot of properly (or at last look-a-like-but-not-so-authenticly) dressed archers:
The Organizer, Hubi, a friend of mine and a good longbow-bowyer (note the fancy footwear ):
A very interesting shot-situation:
Note the Medieval - if not ancient - Foam target at this merchants tent
Most shots were hunting distance, but with lots of brush or twigs:
Some were special:
There was a Falconer showing his birds of prey:
Some scenery; with the thickness of the ice still being you can tell we had a harsh winter this year:
Someone upriver seems to have misjudged the distance:
Martin, from my club, showing why Longbows need to be long .....
I tried a little highlighting on this one.
This pic shows two things that arent actually visible any more, winter and a rivulet that only runs after lots of rain:
Thx, for looking
Axel
P.S. I just need to tell before i burst...made 1.rank Longbow-class this time Sorry, for bragging again

Thanks for the great photos once again Axel; I really appreciate you sharing them with us. It sure looks like the range was set up in a very interesting place. It still looked cold and wow that chunk of ice and frozen rivulet. I liked the photos of the birds also.
A big congratulations on your 1st place; excellent shooting!!! You can brag all you like mate.

Thanks alot! Im not that good, i just know at wich tournaments i got a chance and go there
Some pics were double or missing, now it should be better.
(and i cant believe ive originally written "...beards of prey..." )
Jeff, you once showed a pic with that "highlighting- /partially black and white pic- technique" and inspired me to that try at the rivulet-pic. Im not to happy about how it came out, what would you suggest making different?

I saw it and had a little chuckle mate.g_r wrote:(and i cant believe if originally written "...beards of prey..." )
I think a bit more contrast would help lift it and perhaps a little added saturation.Jeff, you once showed a pic with that "highlighting- /partially black and white pic- technique" and inspired me to that try at the rivulet-pic. Re: I just gotta.. -UPDATE on pg. 1
OK, tried more contrast, cut it a bit more centered, darkened the monochrome parts but couldnt add much stauration, looks already quite unreal i like it better now i think

Now that certainly gave it a more dramatic looking effect. You went further with the adjustments than I was thinking but it gave the photo a completely different feel.

Fantastic Photo's Axel.
Nothing like a bit of out the ordinary shooting to keep the interest up. Looks like a great area.
Cheers.

Axel, thank you for the photos and story.
The venue appears to be an excellent choice for traditional shooting.
Congratulations on your scores.
Daryl.
