One for charity.....Finished PICS
I am making a knife to be auctioned for charity(RFDS) and am really happy with the file work on the back of this one as it is a bit more complex than I have done before. It is still a bit rough as it is yet to be rehardened and have the final sanding and buffing on it.It is to have a nice burle handle.

Very nice mate!!!!!!
Re: One for charity.....
Tricky pic Jape it is 220 OA length, blade 110mm the steel is from an antique sawmill blade that I have made a few others from and comes up as a very nice blade with good qualities of sharpness and edge retention.

A bit of an update with it almost being finished with it only needing a few more coats on the handle and a final finish and sharpen.

Very nice, love the handle and the way the swirls enhance/match the steel work.

I love your work Kimall.
Great file work.
The handle is really nice.
I bet you couldn't stop smiling as you were finishing it off.
I know I would be.

Ounce this one is finished I am starting on a new project that has got me really excited and it has been hard to stay focused on this one to get it finished but def worth it.

Excellent all round Kimall, lucky guy that got it. Look forward to seeing any more that you produce.
Re: One for charity.....Finished PICS
Just a question ,, what are those lines in the blade ???kimall wrote:
Re: One for charity.....Finished PICS
Not sure what lines you mean Coach mabey it is just the way the pic is taken as it is hard to take photos of a mirror finish as I am sure you know with your experience making your knives.Or it is just that I am a plumber and not a knife maker and there are lines there that should not be there but I did not see them myself when I sent it off today.Either way it came up very sharp and should make a usefull hunting companian. If you have any tips or advice on a better finish I would love to hear them if you would like to share.Allways keen to learn more.

Re: One for charity.....Finished PICS
Maybe its just the pic , but it "looks" like there are parallel lines going from the spine to the edge .
As for how I finish a blade ,, well I just work through the grits by hand , making sure all scratches are out from the last grit before I move on to a finer one . I do this by putting some wet and dry on a piece of flat sheet metal , sit it on the edge of my bench and draw the knife across it from heel to tip . When I achieve what I want , I then just buff the blade using some Green and Red polishing compound

Good effort Kim, I like the timber in the handle.
