My Canister Damascus Experiment
Hi all how is it going?
As you know I have been having a play making knives, as most of us do.
Well I LOVE Damascus so I thought I would have a go. I made a little rope blade, worked out ok, but all other attempts have failed. Untill now. I had a go at canister Damascus, that is where you add different steels together in a steel tub, heat it up in the forge and hit it to make a steel billet. This is steel shot from the blasting chamber and some spring steel.
Grind off the canister and forge out the blade.
This is what I got about 50mm blade length.

That looks a chunky little blade mate. The patterns in the steel should look great once the blade is polished up.

It was polished and then been in ettch to bring out the pattern.

That is ok, I was just saying what I had done.
I polished the blade, harden and temper, repolish then etch in ferric chloride.
This is what it was like before hardening.
