Quickly nocked up a trio of throwers for the gathering this weekend. 4 hours to make 'em and another 4 hours to get the three of them to stick...
They are 1075 so later after they've proven their worth (or not) I'll clean them up, harden them and temper them back to about 48-50C.
285 mm long made from 35 mm x 5.3 mm stock. Have plans to scale them up to 300 mm long out of 40 x 5 mm stock.
Cheers... Rod

They look the goods Rod. Are the holes in the hilt just to balance the blade for throwing or will you use them to attach scales later?

Thanks Bob. The holes are just for balance. I designed them to have the centre of gravity in the middle of the knife lengthways and across the breadth (its marked on the template ).
I agree with the school of thought that apart from balance issues, you need to have pretty heavy duty material for scales to stand up to the abuse that beginner throwers dish out (me... )
The holes in the tang do help with grip though so there is some use to them. My upscaled version will have the grind full length so they will be useful camp tools as well as balanced for throwing.

That was about 5 m from recollection. I have changed my grip and now have one rotation from about 3.5 m.
The ABA throwing rounds are done from 3 m, 5 m and 7 m pegs.
I have quit practicing at home because a stray knife glanced off the top of the target and went over the backstop into the neighbours BBQ area ... (grumble.... bloody suburbia... )
cheers... Rod
