Those knots are causing a problem for you. Will be interesting to see if they will bend ok. If they do then the recurving of the tips should be a worthwhile option.

These things happen Daryl as you know. Thinking about it may give you an idea on how to go forward but it may be no good; wait and see.

Good to see the progress Daryl. It often takes lot of time to get things right; slow and easy does it.

Re: Bidwillii Build-along.
That worked so well Daryl. I like the hand held steamer. I have done similar but just with boiling water in a pot and enclosing the particular place where I want to bend the limb and the top of the pot with alfoil.

Re: Bidwillii Build-along.
Jeff, as you are aware these twisty and knotty billets can be challenging but rewarding with a successful outcome. Those that don’t come up to our expectations can teach us valuable lessons. You are certainly right about that. I am just a novice when it comes to self bows so much to learn. The mind...

Re: Bidwillii Build-along.
It makes for an interesting build. One of my Osage bows I made was very similar to that with the one limb having a big hump in it. I spent a lot of time on it and it turned out to be a great bow. I look forward to more progress photos.

Re: TAA Proposed Equipment Guidelines 2020
TAA- Timber Arrows Australia. Ha ha ha. If the overwhelming desire to have timber arrow only events is to preserve the craft of making timber arrows why is there no such desire to have self made bow only events so that the craft of making bows is preserved? After all, both are as important as each ...

Re: TAA Proposed Equipment Guidelines 2020
I for one do not understand the drive to "define " the longbow or Recurve. IMO you can easily class these all as Traditional Style Longbow and Traditional Style recurve. We don't see the Compound shooters defining by the bow but by the way it is accessorised so why we continue the path of...

Re: To Mix by Weight or Volume?
G'day Daryl, I mix my Smooth-On by weight. Back in 1993 in a Smooth-On Technical Bulletin they gave the mix ratio by volume of equal proportions of Part A & B but also by weight; Part A: 100 - Part B: 83. I have always just measured it by weight.

Re: TAA Proposed Equipment Guidelines 2020
I agree wholeheartedly; longbows are not known a American flat bows. I also had a chuckle at the first sentence; "Longbow refers to the traditional straight end style longbow." If a bow doesn't have straight ends than it isn't a longbow but at least no semi-recurves allowed. Also it appear...

That's an interesting build-a-long Daryl. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us as I'm sure it will help those looking to make such a bow.
