Some serious goats there Jack, very nice work. A 60# recurve would rip my arm off I think!
Do you take the horns for trophies? What do you do with the goats once shot?

Re: Anyone near Brisbane willing to help with a Flemish twis
I'm glad this question came up. And Col thanks for that link, they make it look pretty straight forward. Something they didn't show in the clips was twisting the finished string to get it to the right length. Would this have been necessary? And it does seem a bit odd when you've got continuous loops...

Re: Pacific Yew Tri Lam.... another flatbow.
Yew is certainly a lovely looking timber and good you could salvage it to use. Seems like this bow making stuff requires a bit of innovation and making do. The top shelf timber of "Bunnings Boo" I think only grows in big green sheds. Is this able to be used as a backing? The Bunnings...

That is indeed a beautiful looking bow, all the curves sit very well together. The grip shape looks a bit unusual, sort of concave? How does it sit in the hand at full draw?

Re: Silky Oak for a bow?
Not a total loss. I've got a mate who makes custom fishing rods and he'll take some to make some handles. I've still got 2 halves of a very big log to use......... somehow. I need to reduce it to get it off my garage floor!

Re: Silky Oak for a bow?
Thanks guys. I looked up some stats on it and as a bow wood it will make good furniture. Would it be fine for a handle? The grain should be awesome.
And Jeff, I wish I'd known before I split it as it would have been turned into stools for the back yard.

Re: Longbow in under 2 hrs
I'd like to be able to knock out a bow that quickly, experience no doubt helps there. Very nice work. I was in one of the larger hardware stores a week or so ago and noticed they had red oak boards. I spent about half an hour sorting through every bl**dy board and do you think I could find any with ...

Silky Oak for a bow?
I've been given a very large section of Silky Oak (Grevillea Robusta) and wondering if this will be any good for a self bow. I've split the log (around 18 inches diameter) and it seems the grain is not that defined. I've never heard of a Silky Oak bow and there may be a reason for that. Might save m...

Re: glue question
Hi All. I've done a ring around and the only place I've found locally (Brisbane) that stocks any of the above mentioned glues is Carbatech. Seems they don't carry Smooth-On. I've found Rowe Trading down south who seem to be the Australian distributor for Smooth On and have contacted them but no resp...

Fantastic looking bow Guy. Is it the Valkyrie? Or totally custom?
