again mate - thanks for the info.
out of interest - how far over the shaft does the outsert go?
just thinking - in terms of strength it seems like a good idea as long as there's plenty of shaft inside the outsert - in order to spread stresses over a greater amount of the foreshaft....

Re: Gringa D/R carbon Longbow
lovely curve!!!
at that draw length/poundage/arrow combo it should punch them right into a buff if you do your part.
one question - behind the point on those arrows - is that some kind of strengthening/footing?
if so - what did you use and how do you go about making it?
cheers

Re: arrow set up for chunky boars
agree totally with muz. also - no-one can really tell you what arrow/point/adaptor/length etc. combo you'll need - impossible. IMO the only way to find out for sure is bareshaft testing. Do a search on it there are heaps of places where you can find how to do it. i also like heavy arrows, strong 2-b...

have you put the fly-tying on the back-burner then?
would be good for you to get out hunting again too, you know, something a bit more serious.

Re: IM BACK!!!!
your longer arms will give the arrows a good boost Maggie - good to see your back at it. i find my interests seem to move in cycles as well - leverguns, 4WD, rimfires, bows, big bore rifles, quad bikes, etc. etc. and it always comes full circle. which i guess means it IS ok to have all these toys. y...

Toelke TD whip SOLD
Selling this due to non-use going with lighter bows. Bow is in as-new condition and has had probably 50 arrows through it at most. 55lb@29.5" 64" long, so probably around the 50lb mark at 28". Micarta and highly-figured Cocobolo and Rosewood in the riser, bamboo limbs with absolutely ...

Re: Bought myself a new Toelke Whip.
Gday Mick. Good to hear you like the new bow. The whips are just bloody brilliant aren't they! my first was a 58" one (baught second hand) which had a very light riser wood and was just nothing to carry (incredibly light) and shot really well. but later i decided it was really a bit too short f...

loosly related i know - but very relevent info for us regarding longer term bush living/survival in australia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTK6Z6oCT3g there are a couple of sequels and some other videos by the same user - well worth checking out imo. i like his honesty and pragmatism - and the fa...

good to see it being printed again - and i agree with your comments perry. i have an old copy of this Richrd Graves book that i bought from amazon a while ago imediately after reading a mates copy. this is THE BEST book i've read on australian-specific bushcraft/survival - most of it applicable rega...

Re: Snobery in hunting
The reference to "using a wheely device"; I just took it in the context of what was being said by bstan86 and just thought it as slang. I myself very rarely call a compound bow a compound bow but rather a number of other names. I hardly see that as lack of respect for someone but somethin...

Snobery in hunting
I have noticed over the years as I've met lots of different people involved in various formats of hunting that occasionally I come across characters who seem to hold themselves on some kind of pedestal in regards to their experience or amount of game taken - those kinds of things. It could come down...

looks great mate!
i reckon they'd go great as limb tip overlays or in the riser - maybe even veneres on the limbs!
couldn't be good for performance, but some people like that sort of thing.

i admit it's been while since i read all of the ashby reports, but wasn't one of his main points that the correctly set up single bevels showed better penetration? i remember that this was mainly regarding bone as opposed to soft tissue - but that's still a significant benefit isn't it? i agree with clinton about single bevels being a good thing (when done right obviously), and also that it is well worth reading, understanding and applying Ed Ashbies extensive study findings. he's done his homework (and a hell of a lot of it at that), and has never strayed from sound scientific pri...
