I have started making a flat bow using a spotted gum decking board. im at the stage where i can get a short string (very twisted up slightly long string from another broken bow) on and brace the bow, and is tillered so one limb is 1/16th of an inch more flexed than the other (weaker) at a distance 3...

I certainly will be Dave!! If not for bows, for furniture or fencing. The ironbark are Silver-leaf Ironbark (Eucalyptus Melanophloia) not red or grey Ironbark, however i will be cutting some to try anyway. did a search and found a few good images of cutting bamboo poles for backing. shouldnd be too difficult if i cut them with a fair bit of extra left on the sides for lee-way.

Mick Cheers heaps for the info and the links, they were a big help!! Ive looked all round the place and apparently the only place i can get Titebond is from Carba-tec (hour and a bit from home), so i'll probly pick up some of both Titebond an Techniglue so i have a bit of each aswell as some timber....

What to look for when sourcing boards from timber yards etc
Hi all,
Looking for some advice on what to look for when purchasing boards for bows at timber yards, bunnings and the like.
Things like straight even grain, knots etc.
Any info will be a big help as im heading out to get soe wood in a couple of days...

Thanks Mick Im more concerned with the spotted gum separating should it be cut through one or more growth layers. Ive seen this with a few little experiments round home, (different timber though) but hopefully it wont be a problem. I'll try with no backing first and if the worst should happen and it...
