Re: KERFING…..an ALTERNATIVE.

Very nifty Daryl ;) ...it would look quite nice to once the bow has had the finish applied. So im guessing the curve is held in shape via the glue?

Re: Spotted Gum flat bow

Sorry to hear about the crack.... Do you think you could post pics? As I would still be curious to see , why is it that people seem to be having more success with the kiln dried spotted gum floor boards than they are with staves?....I would have assumed that a nice wide limb shape like DrAK's would ...

Alright just did a bit more work tillering, here she is facing the other way now (knotty limb now left hand side) and now at 17" of draw length....... The question I have is ... if I recurve the tips now, will it affect the tiller in any way? :chores-chopwood: 20150314_152437-1.jpg 20150314_152...

Re: Another Osage

Forgot to mention too Cam, if you do use them it goes without saying to rough the glass surface before gluing. Cheers bob, shouldn't be an issue though  Just curious, do you make bows in the 66 to 68 inch range? Yea have done a few times Daryl, from memory they were made from red oak, one had ...

G'day gang Just roughed out a bow today from a short stave I had that didn't look very promising. Turned out a bit better than expected, however when looking at it profile it is very wavy so should be an interesting challenge, I'm also leaving this knot in as it should look pretty cool when she's al...

Hi all Just finished up this lil beauty using a piece of yew i thought would be no good at all due to knots. Granted this is a kids bow but I'm still suprised that it didn't break considering the back is not at all flat and quite bumpy and wavey and consists of a mixture of heart wood and sap wood a...

It's hard to tell from the pics but it looks to me as if the fibreglass has delaminated from the wood? I'm having trouble seeing the splinter  ....what does that area look like at full draw?. That's a good job on the bow to

Re: Help!! Cracked Bow

Hi sylakone, Sorry to hear about the crack, pictures and bow dimensions would be really good to aid in a diagnosis of what went wrong. I too have a bow made from Merbau (a flat bow) and it's backed with dog bone raw hide, the bow is 50" from tip to tip and weighs in at 38# @ 18" ... has ha...

Yew scraps

Hi all, Just thought I'd post up some pics of a hair fork I made for the misses. It's made with a scrap piece of yew and some scrap bits of gemsbok horn I had lying around. It really is such a beautiful timber to work with and ever so cooperative  20150221_160235-1.jpg 20150221_160251-1.jpg...

Yew poisoning

Has anyone else suffered any symptoms after working with yew (especially from sanding) ? I was using a draw knife to square up a piece to...

Im lovin that recurve mate! She looks beautiful
How many layers of sinew did you use and did it pull any reflex into the bow whilst drying?, also what brand of hide glue did you use? And did you soak your sinew in warm water before applying it?

Cheers
