Re: static tip recurve

Not talking about a wood horn and sinew recurve but a fibreglass or an all wood static tip bow when designed properly will increase in length as the bow is being drawn. The tips should stand straight up at full draw making a lower string angle than a working recurve. And as Chris said it will make t...

Re: Arrows - Are these Dodgey??

Edward those arrows are very poorly made, forgetting the quality and the fletches not lining up, they will never have stable arrow flight, distance the fletches are down the shaft will nerer stabalize the arrow they and will never fly straight out of your bow. The fletches need to be up as close to ...

Re: American Cherry [Prunus serotina]

Daryl, American Cherry is a popular lamination for laminated fibreglass bows. I doubt if you will have any problems with it at all. It's a very nice looking lamination...Glenn...

Re: Black Wattle for core laminations?

I shot some T.D. recurves Matt Giffin made in 1990 and they had black wattle for the core laminations, I think he used some brisbane wattle for laminations as well. Those bows shot very well, I think Matt shot some red deer with those bows. I have made wattle selfbows and shot pigs with them, it's a...

Re: Nock Alignment

Perry is right as stiffness can vary, but if you are using timber shafts I much prefer to pick the top and a bottom of the shaft, if you look at the shaft the feathers of the grain will point one way and on the other side thay will point or run out the other way. When the feathers of the grain are p...

Re: The Gift

I remember the Bear Bruin longbows, I think but not sure that it would be a mid to late 80's model, although it could be an earlier one because I think by then they were using the green action wood or a camo model...Glenn...

Re: first attempt selfbow

Rod next time you want to try making a backed bamboo bow you could just try a softer backing material. You will have a lot more success with using a pine species, I would ask for clear hoop pine, it's a evan grained native timber and no problems buying it. Bunya Pine is a really timber to use if you...

Re: Bowhunter - Australia (New Annual Bow Magazine)

I don't know if anybody can truly appreciate how much effort has gone into this magazine and how much of a financial risk one person has taken to get it on the shelves. It's easy to say there is not enough of this or that but at the end of the day send in an article with the content that you would l...
