Re: does anyone shoots endless loop D 97 strings ?

Hi Glenn. It's been a long time since I shot a endless loop. The problem with the flemish twist string is I don't know how to make them, and the endless loop is easy. This days I am padding the part of the string that touches the limb with wool that my wife uses for knitting. Together with the felt ...

Re: does anyone shoots endless loop D 97 strings ?

I reckon one would really feel 15 fps difference in speed.
I also think it would make a lot more noise on recurves, such speed slapping against the limbs.

Re: does anyone shoots endless loop D 97 strings ?

Hi Steve.
By what I was reading on the Bingham's brochure, TS plus is made of Dynema as well (.014 diameter).
I have been shooting Coach's strings for some time and they are really good.
This 450X must be good.
15 fps is a bloody good improvement.

does anyone shoots endless loop D 97 strings ?

Just wondering if someone shoots endless loop D97.
Would it be faster than flemish twist strings made with the same material ?

Re: been a busy bow! more pics added

Nice bows Otis.
I really like the andamam selfbow.
Are the limbs symmetrical or is one longer ?
55# is good poundage for 65" long selfbow, I reckon.
good on ya!!!

Re: how you got started?

I started in mid 2006. My wife gave me a woodworker magazine and said it had the plans for a nice coffee table that she would love to have it done. The problem is that in the end of that magazine also had the plans for a take down recurve. Just the riser because the limbs the guy said we could buy i...

Looks a bit redish from here.

Re: Silver Ash for laminations

I was taking a look at google and theres many different types, it grows from north qld to nsw.
I will try to talk to the guy anyway and see where came from.
What would be the ideal amount of moisture for lams ? 10 - 15 % ?

Re: Silver Ash for laminations

Hi Jeff.
Would have any other types of silver ash that wouldn't be suitable for lams ?
This mill is here in Brisbane and the guy just said silver ash.
Would it be the same as north queensland silver ash ?

Silver Ash for laminations

Would silver ash make good laminations for recurves?
If so, would it be comparable to canadian rock hard maple, or a bit softer?
Just found a mill where the guy have heaps of it and sells pretty cheap.

Yeah Ichi, I love my single pieces also, they are so much lighter.
But I am in this take down phase now , you know, sometimes you just go through some phases of something for some time.
But I have a new form here for a 56" single piece recurve that I am itching to try.

Re: finished take down 60" 62# @ 28

Not yet Steve. I have a drum sander Jet 10 - 20 but I used it only for the blocks for the risers. One day when I get myself a good band saw I will start to cut and grind lams but for while I feel confortable just buying them and gluing them up together. The only tools I have are a GMC linisher, a dr...

Re: finished take down 60" 62# @ 28

Thank you all for the kind words. Yeah Steve, the bamboo comes nice and strong but you have to mix with other timbers because the bamboo flooring is a bit heavy . This bow came a bit too heavy ( 1.6 kg ), I should have used some other timber in this combo. But shoots good, it's the most powerfull bo...

finished take down 60" 62# @ 28

Well, finished this one at least.
Came a bit heavier than expected at 62# but it will be refined in a near future by tapering a bit more the limb tips.
Too keen to try it out. Shoots good, strait, fast and flat until 30 yards, and I am still using a dacron string.

Re: Need For A New Recurve

Good job Daryl.
Nice lines, it really look like a fast shooter.
A lot of recurve in this one, but with the handle being that forward it wouldn't have any stacking problems.
Did you reinforced the belly limb tips as well ?

Steve.
Do you put a wedge on the form to give you more reflex or between the laminations to stiffen up the last few inches of the limb tips(like a static tip)?

Re: Take down 60" - continue -

Daryl. I shoot split fingers (one up and two down the nock) so I use positive tiller, the top limb weaker. It comes a time that I start shooting the bow before it's finished to see how it goes, but most of the time it will be just nock height adjustment, by this time the bow will be pulling strait a...

Re: Take down 60" - continue -

The tapered lam is on the surface of the form so changes the curve at the limb tips. The last 10 or so inches of the limb take on a more accentuated curve. Not much, the lam I used was only .100"/2. I am shooting 55# now so 57 - 58 pounds gonna be great!!! The arrows I have been shooting are 60...

Re: Take down 60" - continue -

Hi Steve. I used the tapered lam with the butt side on the limb tip side of the form so it gives me a bit more recurve. I still haven't shot this bow, put it on the tillering stick until 22" and it's pulling strait. Needs only minor adjustments (sanding) for perfect tiller. Took from the tiller...

Re: Take down 60" - continue -

Hi Daryl. Yeah mate, one tapered and one parallel. Theres a overlay on the belly side of the limb tips but it's just for decoration, it's a 7" long strip of jarrah veneer .020" thick, after sanding it, wouldn't make too much diference. This time I made some temporary modifications to the f...
