Re: Takedown semi-recurve bow.
Sorry team, just wrote a lengthy reply to Daryl's question then closed the window for some unknown reasons and lost it. Here is the brief version. Daryl, the unbraced bow displays the same characteristics as that highlighted in your picture. The take down model has some reflex in the outer 1/3rd of ...

Re: How do you clever folk do stuff like....
Using circular arcs is by far the easiest and looks good too. The benefit is you can use emery tape on one piece to sand the other and vice versa until they fit really well, given you take the time to square up your bandsaw table. I find if you want the accent to be fairly thick (like a mosaic strip...

Takedown semi-recurve bow.
Over the recent break I made a pair of take down limbs on my one piece semi-recurve form. I have used the same style for the riser as my previous takedown recurve but shortened it from 19" down to 16". The bow is 64" NTN and weighed in at 54#@28". The bow shoots nicely and of cou...

Re: Just Add A Hair Dryer.
Seems you know how to stay out of trouble Daryl. When I have small jobs to heat cure, I put them in the oven with baking paper underneath to catch any drips of epoxy. I don't get in trouble for doing it in the kitchen anymore as I have an oven in the shed for curing risers and tempering knives heheh...

My Dad used to harvest a lot of timber for wood turning. I think he mixed borax with PVA glue to repel borers.

Re: Gordon Bo-tuff; ULS vs UL
If the scrim is to blame for the lack of clarity in the glass, I wonder why all of the streaks in the glass (at least in my lot) appear to be in the longitudinal direction. While it may not be apparent for a limb that seems to be purely in bending, the loading produces a shear force in the limb. For...

Re: Goat Cull, Right Or Wrong?
I don't recall them offering hunting access to the local bowman to try and reduce the numbers. I can see Pelorus Island from the beach and dream of hunting it. I am sure many of the Hinchinbrook Bowman would get behind the effort to cull the goats.

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
A few photos of the finished bow below. It has been to the Gladstone Muster and the ABA Branch B Safari before being properly finished. It is a lot more comfortable to shoot at only 47#@28" than my other bows. The light weight doesn't seem to be any penalty when proportionately lighter arrows a...

Re: RSPCA want Arrows Tracked in Queensland
Been thinking about this. If all mass produced arrows had a traceable serial number, that would probably cover 99% of the cases where some idiot has shot a roo on a golf course, and the culprit would be found. These people would't have the first clue how to construct an arrow and so would definitely...

I like it Preston. Very hard to pick out tiller issues with D/R bows. If it shoots quietly, thats usually a good sign. You bamboo has a long space between nodes, good find.

Barely, I relax my bow hand as I take load on the string and don't grip the bow again until after the arrow is gone.

Re: Anyone ever tried horn as a belly?
Hi Colin. Mis you are thinking of Asiatic style bows, they use slabs of horn on the belly of wide flat limbs. http://www.manchuarchery.org/content/bow-making Don't know how a timber back would fair up against the very stiff horn belly though. They put a very heavy sinew backing on the bows in the li...
