Re: Osage Orange expression of interest
I got a friend in victoria who has osage growing near his house. I read some where that you can grow it your self and it was a fast growing tree? Does anyone know how to grow osage and will it grow in the tropics? If i could find a good bow timber that grows up here in cooktown, then i would grow my...

Re: What's the real deal on Ribtek Broadheads?
Just a question about ribtek broadheads. I was under the impression that col graham came up with the idea (design) of the ribtek ferrule. But, reading Traditional bowyers bible i saw a picture of his ferrule design dated in the sixtys? Not to take away credit of cols broadhead, but i always thought ...

Re: RING BARKING TREES FOR BOWS
Thanks Rod, since posting this thread, i have spoke to a bloke who used to cut timber for wharf construction. He said they ring barked them for that purpose, to keep the bark stuck onto the timber for extra protection. But, he also said that some tree species the bark sticks on and others it comes a...

Re: Ferreting yesterday
Hearing you go ferreting martticus, brings back old memories of me and my cousin going ferreting. We would both take one buck and a doe each and use his buck with my doe and vise versa. Some times for a bit of fun we would let just our dogs chase the rabbits as they come out of the hole. I had a sma...

Re: RING BARKING TREES FOR BOWS
Good point, but i'am only taking the bark off the bottom of the tree about 3inches wide. I no the borers give the trees up here a good chewing. Ill see how it goes, but, i am tending to agree with you, that the pest and fungi will attack it to much. I will let people know how it goes anyway. Just a ...

RING BARKING TREES FOR BOWS
I was just wondering if i ring bark a couple of trees that i have selected for making all wood bows. Would'nt this slowly season the tree for you and later when the leaves fall off come and cut it down, split it and finish seasoning it? This way you dont have to store at home all the timber? Has any...
