Re: Instinctive shooting - an instinctive shooter's perspect
for something to be instinctual, it is something that occurs without prior training. the word instinctive does not mean exactly the same thing. it means do something without conscious thought. so to aim without thinking is probably a misnomer too, i find that in the minds eye, the space between your...

Re: Trad archery bling.
to me bling really just means adornments, so i guess that includes fancy metal finger guards or thumb rings (which i don't own... yet) interesting to consider beautiful equipment bling, and i guess not everyone is into it but i love the idea of having nice looking arrows to loose but for some reason...

Re: Your thoughts on Bamboo arrows...

Re: my new red oak three piece bow.
I cant see that handle in your picture very clearly, but i think i know what you mean, take a larger chunk out to see through it better? and yes the tips were just bits i didn't cut, i didnt glue anything to them, i was thinking putting proper ones on the back but i have a feeling they will peel off...

my new red oak three piece bow.
so after some initial trial and error with a board of red oak my first attempt ended up breaking. some months later and i've decided to have a go at bow number two. i'm not the most proficient woodworker out there, and while bandsawing my board i realised she'd bit in too deep on one limb [what caus...

Re: arrow wood
Thank you all for providing such great insight! i'll certainly be looking into all your suggestions. i strangely enough had a dream about a response to this post... very bizarre, but it was about dark coloured sticks found in the bush??? haha i only realise it must have been a dream now that i've re...

arrow wood
hi guys, i've made the decision to tool out my shed with some arrow making equipment i've got the router, and i've ordered some 11/32 drill bits to help with the stabilising blocks [i was actually thinking of using a giant draw runner to turn my drill into a horizontal drill press? anyway...] the sp...

Re: Hammocks
yeah i have the deep jungle hennesy, its great, sleep like a baby, and it also comes with a thermal insert {like car windscreen sunshields} and with that it its amazingly warm {like snow survival}. but it's abit bulky to take in your pack, but it works fine with just a sleeping bag. and with the sna...

Re: Merbau board
yeah i was thinking of carving some kind of nice large handle and using it to keep the middle sturdy, just hoping the 10mm will be alright for the limbs, but i might glue bamboo to it if it need thickening. need to finish building my canoe first! lol

Re: Merbau board
thanks woodie, good to know. i've just started planning my handle now that i've drawn up the bow. i'm not really using any bow designs, just going by looks. the handle unit will be about 30 inches long, and the whole thing tip to tip being 6ft. tips are about 6inches long and 14mm wide to, with the ...

it seems the white ash eucalyptus might be difficult to track down, i'm not sure where i might get a suitable 'starting log'
is there a common type that's easy to use for early projects?

Re: wood recommendation for primitive bows
after some reading up on things i think ive decided to go with Eucalyptus fraxinoides (white ash) and perhaps look into roo hind leg sinew. although it seems to not be a very widespread practice (sinewing the front limbs) it sounds very interesting. thanks again for the link to that pdf file, it's e...

wood recommendation for primitive bows
As a kid i always enjoyed finding sticks to make bows and arrows out of, but after 'growing up' i never got back into my traditional ways... until now. so i've stumbled upon this forum, regarding the very kind of topics i find so interesting, and come to whoever with experience reads this to ask the...
