Re: two feather fletch question
It should work fine if you have them aligned about 20 deg off vertical so that the bottom one will clear the shelf. You would need to look at the minimum total length of feather if considering to use this setup in competition. The minimum combined length is 12 in. in most comps. that is 2 x 6" ...

Re: Barbarian - Thing of beauty
I know it looks a bit different but gives it a similar feel to a recurve. In terms of stability in the hand this is second to none. I too had a shot of Roberts bow. At the time I thought it was ok but when I got home and started to think about it I knew that I had to have one. This is one of only 4 ...

Re: Wrist Slap , Not ARM Slap With a Longbow
Welcome to longbows. The Stick would be particularly bad because it has no shape in the grip at all. The arm-guard is the answer. I shoot with a slightly bent elbow to give some clearance but I still get hit. It doesn't bother the arrow flight as the arrow is long gone before the contact. Or the oth...

Re: how you got started?
Good question otis. i started as a convert from firearms as a kid to a compond bow that was purchased from a guy some of you might know from the olden days. Tom Doctor. On my first hunting trip I bounced an arrow off a pig with that bow and was offered a loan of a wagok 60lb recurve and took my firs...

Re: loose nocks
Hi there matt, A good guide is that the arrow suspended from the string will support itself - just. But the bow suspended from the arrow will not. I got this from Byron ferguson - Become the arrow, tuning section. I have used this method with good results. The other thing in that I nock both above a...

Re: correct arrow length
http://www.rosecityarchery.com/spine.htm shows 55-60 spine arrows suit a bow of 45-50lb if arrows are cut at 29". the tip weight for this chart is 125grains and the off center shot of 1/8" Have a look at this site as it has a step by step guide on arrow selection.

Re: correct arrow length
Hello John, Just one more thing on arrow length. The arrow length will be dictated by the spine of the arrow you need. If the arrow is stiff, a longer length will be needed and a softer shaft will need to be shorter to compensate for this. So if you are after a specific length arrow, you will first ...

Hey there morton, Jeff is absolutely right. The old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it." is exactly what jeff is talking about here. Many years ago, Jeff must have come across the combination that works for him and has never changed it. Life becomes very simple. If we have the willpower...

well put ben and g_r. Racism is more implied and used on both sides as a last resort card. I am wondering if there is any interest in team competitions. It occured to me that we are able to hold team events that could be integrated into a national competition. Re: Bow Weight for comp shooting
hello dances, use the weight that you can happily handle for twice the number of arrows you would normally shoot in competition without fatigue. The cast of the arrow has more to do with the grains per pound you are shooting than the poundage. A 40lb bow shooting an arrow @ 5 grains per pound will b...

no worries mate. Carbons are hard to deal with. I found that when I was shooting carbons out of my bear 60lb recurve the 400 spine beaman hawks shot really well but when I increased the tip weight they did not have the same resultant weakening of spine that you would expect from aluminums or woods. ...

Re: arrow spine help
try a couple with 5" fletches. It looks like to feathers are 4" is that right? use 4 feathers instead of three. Short of that give them to someone with a compound and get some good Oregon / douglas fir arrows. These arrows are tough and last really well with hunting broadheads. I use 170gr...
