Effect of footing arrows on spine

Quick question. If you foot an arrow with a heavy hardwood would you need to go up a weight group as if you were putting on a heavier point OR would the extra stiffness from the shorter original shaft compensate for the heavier pointy end?

Re: Pillar Tiller

If you are really worried about overloading the limbs you could put an electronic balance between the clamp and the bow BUT, initially, it would be an expensive investment.

Being a bit of a recurve person they are really beautiful, even if set up the wrong way round. As for Ulysses, over to you to draw the b*** thing :) too much bow for me.

Won't be long at this rate. The cops may be happy with the rules we have at present but we only need one pollie who is having a bad run and sees a target to kick just like the gun laws after Port Arthur.

Re: M first one....

Don't reckon it would be changed Jeff. When worn on the right the handle faces backward allowing easy use with the right hand. When on the left the handle faces forward allowing the right hand to draw it forward. A bit like some old gun slingers from the wild west.

Its a really good job IMHO.

Re: New here. Help me....

At the ranges you will be shooting it would not matter what the arrows are made from just so long as they are tuned to your bow. I agree in that I like the woods (they have personality).

May sound strange but to nail a hare. They are really hard to get near where I hunt (everything is wild/hunted there) and small so a real challenge.

Re: Opinions on Samick SKB traditional Horsebow

My son shoots one of these bows and we have mucked around with it off a horse. His is a 30lb and is a sweet shooting bow which suits him well but it stacks severly when I take it to full draw so its a short draw for me. Still a fun bow for us all.

Re: Forging a railway spike knife. (How to)

If someone does read this thread there is a limit on how hot you can make your steel. A forge can burn your metal (you will know this by the sparks). For low carbon steel you can go up to an orange/yellow heat but old files are better at orange as the higher carbon lowers the heat at which it burns.

Now I just have to fix the woodies in the corner! Yours look really great, you must be happy with that effort :)

Did you lengthen them or was it to repair breaks? How did it affect the spine and FOC?

I reckon I would be tying a dental floss nock point onto your string then test again. Bare shaft with bum down on some arrows suggests variable nocking point. Get it right and make it permanent would be my attempt.

Re: need some help

You can definitely flatten the flight of an arrow using lighter arrows of the same spine, can get expensive though. My son's horse bow shoots his woods like slow and graceful ballistic missiles but fall off over 20m, its a light bow. When we use 1716s with low profile feathers it shoots darts and th...

Hate to say it but when finding the nocking point I tie on dental floss and move it as needed till I find the spot. Then I crimp on a "real" nocking point or heat the floss to set it.

Is this really about getting rid of bull bars or just regulating what is already happening. Its getting harder to find a bullbar that points forward, most wrap around the front of the vehicle these days. From an interview I heard with a NT pollie and one of the safety blokes it seems they are lookin...
