Re: Broke all the rules in the book on this one!!

Im certainty not one of the experienced guys here, but in my opinion we underestimate the woods we work with and what they're capable of. There are no rules This also coincides with what perry was saying about white man needing everything to be straight, precise & symmetrical Top job on the bow ...

Re: 62 inch Osage bow

Cheers Fellas Got her tillered out to 28" today !!!!......I went for the full circular tiller to reduce the stresses as much as possible, I dont have any scales but I'd estimate she'd be drawing a fraction over 50 pounds I'll weigh her up when I get a chance and let you all know how she went. H...

Re: 62 inch Osage bow

Howdy all Did some shaping and floor tillered her today, I decided to skip the long string and go straight to brace height. Unfortunatly I made the string to short so she has a brace height of more than 7" which is far too much for a selfbow of this length so I'll have to make another string. H...

Facinating snippet into the yesteryears of archery!. 62 inch Osage bow

Hey gang, Just got started on a stave that I brought off Mick some time back (God bless him), It's Osage - 62" in length and large enough that it should yield two bows so I went ahead and split it. There's one gnarly knot in the stave but it shouldn't be to much of an issue provided I leave ple...

Cheers for the kind words gentleman. Your on the money with the single growth ring Daryl  . It is a copy of a Cheyenne bow from the Nez Perce tribe who inhabited the pacific northwest region. This particular bow (namely the artwork on the back) belonged to Yellow Wolf who was a chief of the tr...

Hey Gang Just thought I'd share with you all a little osage selfbow I just finished, It's unbacked and has a little horse hair tuft on the upper limb. Draws 30# @ 17" and is quite the little thumper for it's size Also in the pics is the first 'primitive' arrow I've made with 7" turkey feat...

Pine bow

Hi gang I have recently read a small article on compression wood (compression pine) in particular. It seems that if a tree grows as such a31-lyly.jpg .......the side that is subjected to the lean and therefore supporting the tree produces a wood that has a greater capacity to resist compression or c...

That's a beautiful lil knife there Wayno!

That edge is lookin mighty sharp and the grip looks a treat. Like the old adage says, less is more
How'd you get that rough dimpled look? It's the icing on the cake and I reakon the knife would look quite mundane with out it. Top job

Splitting Osage

Here's a quick few photo's for Colin showing the splitting of an osage stave. As you'll notice Im splitting 'against' the growth rings so to speak and regardless of this it still splits like a dream. When you split it 'with' the rings it splits just as nicely Axe .... just take your time when pushin...
