Re: Spring

I showed the boys a wild bee hive I knew about in a tree out at Cunnamulla last week and was going to take a few photos but the bees objected and we had to make a run for it - thankfully I only got one sting - they didn't mind last time. obviously feral european bee's not native bee's hey jef...

Re: canon ef 28-300 f3.5-5.6 usm L series lens

interestingly, canon says as of september the 1st they no longer warrant any product including "L" series lenses, they said to me that all products have to purchased through an approved australian/NZ canon importer to get warranty. I said what if I purchase here then travel overseas and th...

Re: canon ef 28-300 f3.5-5.6 usm L series lens

I will be buying this lens shortly as the retailer wants $3600 for the lens and I have found them for $2100 online. the retailer is telling me there is no warranty unless you buy in australia? though I have read elsewhere that all lenses have international warranty? has anyone else heard this or had...

Re: canon ef 28-300 f3.5-5.6 usm L series lens

the problem with the lenses 55mm and above they dont allow me to capture portrate shots of people while in the boat holding fish due to the size of the boat and not being able to get them fully in frame. I really need the broad focal range offered in this lense while getting the best quality pics po...

Re: canon ef 28-300 f3.5-5.6 usm L series lens

cheers grahame, the reason behind having one lens is so I dont have to worry about salt spray and dust intrusion during fishing and hunting adventures when i do an lens change. I know its heavy but it will be lighter and less bulky than carrying 2-3 lens. when hunting and fishing i use an Ortlieb wa...

Re: Primitive Hunt

If it's primitve I would take water, knife and bow. but if you havnt done it before I would be taking a "open in case of emergency" bag. it can be done quite comfortably as long as you have the knowledge which comes with practice.

those figures look pretty good mate, as for ribbies they are excellent heads to use. I used them right up until 5 years ago when I wandered off track with other heads  but I am now shooting the 190gr ribbies exclusively again :D if that counts for anything. I know they are very popular among t...

Re: bears backpacking sleep kit review

they look the goods wayno, might be a tad hot when the build up sets in propper up here when the hunting is at its best. I like to really spread out when sleeping in hot weather and if you dont have enough room and your body contacts the mesh the bloody mozzies nail you no end through the mesh.

Re: Where to now?

G'day Joni, I bought my kids the Mohegan recurves from great tree archery. They great bows for kids at a very good price. They have fantastic service for remote people, one of the limbs delaminated on the kids bow all I had to do was send a photo and sent me a whole new bow! The three bows from them...

Re: 18ft 4" Croc - Crikey !!!

There has been several instances of crocs jumping to grab people from boats just not in the adelaide. I mate of mine from work geoff bolitho had a 3m croc grab him by the head several years ago when it jumped over 2m from the water. they had a complete mozzie net surrounding the boat and when a croc...

Re: Cash or Prizes to promote Trad events

I would use prizes or shop vouchers to promote a trad shoot, I think cash will send the wrong message for people to become involved and may attract the people you most likely wouldnt want to attend. cash has it's place as a reward but not in family trad shoots, you want to see the toss bags who come...

Re: bushcraft / survival schools

Maybe look to see if there are aboriginal groups in your area that may let join them on a culture camp, the best ever bushmen in Australia were aboriginals or those who embraced aboriginal ways to live in the bush. You'd be well off on your quest if you follow that path!
