Would you be interested if i sent you a sample of acacia wood for you to do a bend test on and feed it into your computer? It would be good to know how this timber stacks up against timbers you have worked on so far...Roscoe

Re: toy guns
A lot of the publicity concerning this Law came from an incident with the guns at the Cooktown RSL club. The firearms in the club which were inoperable were not registered with the police station. Also two replica machine guns (one made totally of wood, yes wood) that was mounted on top of the roof ...

little john sand the back of the bow very smooth & burnish it with a beer bottle, to keep back fibers down. The pyramid design is a good one to make, very little thickness tapering, good luck..Roscoe

Re: Hickory wattle sapwood/heartwood question
Simon, my sap wood is wet and comes off quiet easy, with a machette and draw knife. Simon, I searched the net about advice on decrowning staves, there was a lot of talk out there but no action. One thing they all seem to be doing is backing the stave with sinew etc. after decrowning. The other metho...

Yeah your right Darren, but sensible things like that don,t work with politics. Just an example, Why hasn't the other states adopted the 10 cent refund on drink bottles as has south Australia? You and i would implement that straight away? Heres another one, I think that painted speed limits on the r...

I googled up Holmegaard bow and i found a website that shows one of the real bows found from that area. But, that bow looks nothing like the bow design we no as a holmegaard? Further investigation seems that the design is a Mollegabet bow. Has anyone else noticed this or am i missing something here? ...

Re: Dimensions for a 30lb boo board bow?
A better idea imo is to use the natural bamboo for the back and the belly & use the floor board as the core material. Because you might find that the natural boo will crush the belly wood of the boo floor board. By using the natural boo on the belly and back it will prevent this and give you a l...

Re: Dimensions for a 30lb boo board bow?
I dont think you would have to back the boo board for a bow of 25-30lb (verticle grain boo). I think a good design for what you would want is a rectangular section bow 70-72" and a bend through the handle design, as mentioned in trad bowyers bible. This bow would be 1 3/8 - 1 1/2" wide par...
