Re: POLL - Trad 'Eligibility'.
Scuzz, You left out selfbows which in my opinion are the most traditional of all. Daryl. Hi darryl I was aiming towards eligibility at trad shoots and once re-reading my OP i realised i wasnt too clear (i have edited to try and clarify further). Seperation of selfbows to longbows to asiatics etc, w...

Re: Bows that qualify for trad shoots and restrictions
2, On a braced bow the limbs need to have no reflex Any bow that has reflex in the limbs when strung is a recurve Scuzz yet many of these type bows are allowed to be shot in the longbow division at the Trad shoots hence my comment. 4, And now a new one as perry has mentioned, length?? or was it the...

POLL - What arrows should be allowed??
Hi again
Another discussion has been about arrows, and what arrows should be allowed at trad events competitively or otherwise. Lets see if the 'poll' option could shed different light.

POLL - Trad 'Eligibility'.
Hi Guys What bows do you think should be eligible for trad events?? I thought that the thread about trad restrictions has gotten a fair amount of views and interest. But maybe there is more people who arent so verbal, and who simply read whats going on. But i thought that maybe some of these more pa...

Re: Bows that qualify for trad shoots and restrictions
So again I say "in my opinion Trad shoots, Trad rules, as adverised prior to the event". If you want to shoot other than this then enter the events that suit the bow and equipment that you prefer. You nailed it IMO Ron. If people come to the shoot and want to shoot equipment other than wh...

Re: Bow No 1
Thanks for the photos Scuzz, much appreciated. The limbs have an unusual bend to them. Alan is a nice bloke and was (probably still is) a very good shot. The bow I mentioned Alan made back in the mid eighties was his first attempt at making a longbow with the deflex/reflex limb design but the refle...

Thanks Scuzz. You are right in what you say. I didn't know where you were from but looking at the the bow shape and the giving of the bowyers first name I'm pretty sure I know who it was. If so you certainly did have a good teacher. I haven't seen Alan I'd say since the very late 1990's. That bow d...

Re: Bows that qualify for trad shoots and restrictions
Neil, Your arrows are fine for trad shoots. To minimise damage to 3D targets it is preferable to keep the bow draw weight to 80 lbs. or under. Daryl. The under 80# rule could be a problem for me, now that the young fella has adopted my little bow I have nothing under 95#. Fraser I dont think its a ...

Re: Bows that qualify for trad shoots and restrictions
It is a great pity that ILF bows seems so misunderstood . ILF , in essence , is a connection fitting for the limbs to the riser and little else . If you wanted to change tiller during a round ... well , you are a better archery mechanic than most .......... Raised rests ? My Flipper rest on my meta...

Thanks Ian and Steve, I can use fast flight on my flat bows not sure about my selfbow it's made of Osage orange. Re: Flemish Twist
In reference to the splice, i will only be using the one colour for the astroflight so i was wondering if i had to count strands to ensure that the same strands were spliced for some kind of strengthening reason. But from the responses it seems it will hold together anyhow. Thanks for the replies gu...

Flemish Twist
Having just finished my first Bow :!: I have begun making strings, i have made a 2splice and a 3splice from B50. But i have a couple of questions. I have used different colours for each, so when it came to merging the loop back into the string i simply matched the colours. This leads to my fi...

Re: How long do you hold at full draw?
I'd suggest that there isn't a "gap shooting" type of archery that differs from any other ... the difference IMHO will always be in form ,but the proof is in the pudding perhaps . but the differences in "aiming" styles are generally overrated for anything 20 yards and under ... ...

I started out shooting compound with sights, release aid, stabilizer etc. Eventually (admittedly, around 10years) i began to get bored of the sport. But the day i went to a trad only club i was instantly hooked. The reason behind this wasnt so much the difference in equipment, but the difference in ...

Yea im not a fan of the howard hill grip. I have shot with one for years, but i think the stretched cylinder type shape could encourage the torqueing as i dont think its a natural position for your wrist to be in. Im definately a fan of a bulbous type of handle, im not sure if thats what is refered ...
