musing on saftey
Since being a newbie to knifemaking and a little older, i am more inclined to try to do things more safely than I did as a young man. eg I cycle to work, have front and rear lights and am wanting to by a reflective saftey vest- wouldn't have caught me dead in one in my younger days. I was thinking o...

That was great. I understood most of it... would have to read it again to make sure LOL Rep is Reputation. For each good post from someone you can give them rep points, kind of fun, and if used correctly you can pretty quickly see who puts thought into their posts and gives good info.. couse.. you c...

i have a simple reason for not posting much. This is all very new to me and I feel I don't have much to add (at this stage) My interest here is knives and bows - I am pretty sure I am about to sell/trade my compound and get a longbow. I don't hunt, so I have nothing to add there either. I hope as I ...

Thanks Coach
Hi All A friend and I have just taken the first steps into making knives. With some help from Coach's Tutorial :D , we got stuck in to an old saw blade. If the pics come out ok of where we are up to I will post them soon. (if I can stand the shame - there are so many nice knives here that it may be ...

Well a friend and I are going to give it a go using your tutorial Coach. We have found a work shop we can borrow to get us started and I am working on sourcing some old saw blades. We will let you know how we get on - and if it is not too embarassing we might even post some pics  cheers wysper

Pretty damn good Gundy :D I have a linisher now which does a good job , so maybe I will do another ,, will see how motivated I get  Now tell me how you got those claw marks in the blade 8) Is a linisher like a grinder on steroids? What does it do that a bench grinder or the hand held one in t...

I havent read the topic this split from, but I have enjoyed reading this one. It is interseting the cliques (sp?) in archery. I am relatively new. I shoot compound and am looking to get a long bow. In NZ at my club, there is good natured banter between the compounders, recurvers and crossbow shooter...

Thanks for all the great advice! I will try a few bows and see what works. Apparently there are some bowyers in NZ but they are harder to find then the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. My bow arm when shooting compound is straight, easier for me to replicate than a bent arm! the angle may chan...

Draw length over 29"
Hi All, I am sorry if this is in the wrong place. I am currently shooting compound at a 30" draw lenght. But I am looking to get a longbow. I notice most seem to have a maximum draw lenght quoted of 29" Do I need a special longbow made? Am I missing something? Forgive my ignorance, but if ...

A kiwi in your midst
Hi All I am in Hamilton, New Zealand. I am a member of Riverglade Archers. I am looking to get into shooting a longbow. I am currently shooting compound (finger release). I like the idea of the longbow, no sights, no trigger, just me, the bow, the arrow and the target.. I will be trying to suck up a...
