Re: Warthog 2 Nam
I was about to ask the same question as Jeff re: the finish. Looks to me like a tung oil type finish with maybe a rub with the steel wool?
Very stylish looking riser Siewho, nice contours.. They're getting better all the time

Re: How did things go this crazy so quickly?
Matt, my applogies for refering to your beliefs as arrogance. That is actually arrogance on my part as you have pointed out. I am the classic example of the pot calling the kettle black. I think the issue is not about who is arrogant, but about what is true and real. Don't be silly Steve, no apolog...

Re: How did things go this crazy so quickly?
I can't seem to make sense of your comment quoted above. How can two parties with opposing views be both right. How can your logic lead to to the conclusion that we are both right, especially when you profess to be concerned about the truth. Knowing which is true is different from knowing that logi...

I'm going to avoid the gay issue, but will point out that "winding the clock back" would also unwind women's rights and other changes in societal vlaues. Sidestepping wider issues, remember that a mere ~40 years ago, Aboriginals weren't classed as humans, but "fauna and flora." ...

Now I find myself living in a world where men with traditional values are vilified and lampooned for them, yet homosexuals get an annual street parade and would probably have a better chance of adoption than a man who openly loves his hunting, and makes no secret of his traditional values! What utt...

G'day Geoff,
I would highly recommend both Fred Asbells "Instinctive shooting" and also Byron Ferguson's "Become the Arrow".
Both excellent sources of information

Re: Why I don't use fletching tape anymore
Stephen is right, the tape won't hold particularly well on raw timber shafting.. I have never come across a hard finish it wouldn't stick to. The other reason you might find it doesn't stick so well is that you are using a straight fletch, so the feather is trying to move back to its natural curved ...

That's just beautiful Rod Truly one of the nicest straight laid longbow handles I have ever seen..
Love the way the wenge looks against the other timbers.. it's a nice smelling timber to work with too if you get a good piece.

That is a very nice looking bow Daryl. It's good to see that your recent hand operation doesn't seem to have affected your ability to turn out beautiful bows. :D The high wrist recurve grip is definitely much more comfortable option for those with wrist problems as I too have found out recently. Che...

Hi Kirabilli. I've been in a similar situation to you recently due to a scaphoid fracture in my left wrist (bow hand) which has kept me from shooting for a while. My wrist couldn't cope with the end to end compression of my bones when drawing the bow, but had no problems pulling the bow under tensio...

Re: ALLOY ARROW ADVICE
G'day John,
In order to recommend a good starting point for your arrow spine you'll have to tell us your arrow length and the weight of the bow at your draw. For arrows up to 29" I would be using 1916's out of that bow as a good place to start.
Cheers,
Matt

Well I totally agree with Otis.. Of course archers are legitimate "athletes" but target archery is a strength based sport and IMO has very little to do with overall physical fitness and aerobic capacity when enjoyed at a recreational level (ie. we are not all Olympic athletes) Fair enough ...

Re: Poachers found in State Forest
You hunt public land in Victoria, where anybody who can pay for the licence can hunt using either rifle or bow, and no-one has to book before they go hunting (so you have no idea what usage a forest is getting. How can you be fine with using that public land but find it "bloody ridiculous"...

Re: Poachers found in State Forest
All I can say is that I most certainly wouldn't be wandering around an area where ther were rifle shooters. They may not do anything wrong but the possibility of a bullet heading in my direction is a situation I do not wish to place myself in. Hunters with set areas is the only sensible option IMO....

Yeah that too! Aa good rule of thumb for recurve brace height is having 20mm of string groove showing after the string leaves the limb.GrahameA wrote:Adjust the brace height - the string has probably stretched (Remember you made it. )

I always go to the frontpage, then click on campfires.. I quite enjoy having a look when there's a new picture up but that doesn't seem to happen very often. A good idea would be to have a whole load of pictures submitted from various members in a scrolling slideshow that changes every 10 seconds or...

Re: Silencers?
G'day Moreton :) Is the "screen door slamming" you're referring to on your Gamemaster? It sounds as though your limbs may be out of tiller, more than just a string noise issue. You could try experimenting with shimming the limb pockets to try and get better results.. Layers of tinfoil work...

Re: Single bevel
From what I understand having the bevel on the correct side is mainly to do with how the blade cuts with the rotation of the arrow. I'd think it would make absolutely no difference to arrow flight.

Re: String Grooves
It's not really an issue at all Tom on a straight laid bow... I've made quite a few self bows with the string running off centre to varying degrees and they shot fantastic. The fact that your bow is glass should not make a difference. If you're happy with the way it shoots then I wouldn't worry. :) ...

Re: loose nocks
Stephen, another way to do the nocking point area of the string with dental floss is to wrap it on first and then serve as normal. The serving covers the dental floss and looks much neater IMO. That's my preferred method to get my nocks fitting perfect as well. I have also used layers of teflon thr...

G'day Matt... yes mate that is a pretty good example of what you might expect the differently tillered bows to measure. Otis - Sometimes a bow that is designed to be shot off an elevated rest may need to be re-tillered if it is shot off the shelf, or vice versa. I own a bow like this, and when I sho...

Re: Bow tiller
Matt the only way you can know for sure is to measure the tiller of the bow.. Measure from the ends of the fadeouts to the string on both limbs and work out the difference between the two. A 3 under tillered bow should have an equal distance top & bottom and split finger will have anything up to...
