Re: Finally a Succesful Bow
Nice work sylakone  Those timbers look good together, what glue did you use? I actually used Polyurethane Glue I got from Mitre 10 it has worked great so far. I will let you know down the track if it ever delaminates. Thanks all :) I can say now that there is nothing more gratifying as sho...

Finally a Succesful Bow
Well after about 12 tries to make a successful bow I finally did it. I have now shot about 120 arrows through it. The way I did it was as a Tri-Lam I finally had an oppurtunity to go to Ottos wood. I went there to get a hickory stave the only one they had was bad had knots and bad grain. They did ha...

Re: Help!! Cracked Bow
Hi Dennis I can look at putting up a photo of the fail the break was a clean snap not just a crack like the first one it also looks like a bad grain runoff was where the fail happened. This was a standard long bow design with a shallow d shaped belly so it had the full taper from the handle to the t...

Re: Help!! Cracked Bow
Well annoyingly and unexpectedly my bow broke in a completely different place than the problem area I showed you. So weird. It broke about 3 inches up from the bottom knock the complete opposite limb to the problem area I posted. Oh well I have already started on another bow so hopefully I will have...

Re: Degame Danish Flat Bow [Holmegaard / Mollegabet]
.....I was also hoping to get 2 bows out of the piece of wood...... Sy, I would be happy to get one good bow out of the board. The grain orientation looks quite good, looking down the edge of the board does the grain run parallel to the back / belly or does it run off at an angle between these surf...

Re: Degame Danish Flat Bow [Holmegaard / Mollegabet]
Thank you I spose I meant to half the thickness from the dimensions as a starting point before tillering and as you have pointed out reduce the draw weight as I tiller. I am still quite new to bow making so any tips anyone can give me is always a great help. Thanks for your sage advice. Cheers Sy

Re: Degame Danish Flat Bow [Holmegaard / Mollegabet]
Thanks guys I think I will try to copy the dimensions you put up greybeard with alterations to make the full 68" or 70" n - n. My draw weight at the moment is between #30-#40 and my draw length is around 29". That will help a lot I am surprised how low the dutch elm specs are compared...

Re: Help!! Cracked Bow
Thanks from what I can see you might see it in the third photo there is a definite crack at the grain runoff and when drawn that splinter has lifted the glass. I was thinking of either super glue or maybe even some more fibre resin and see if I can base the lifted glass again but not sure if I can g...

Re: No Wood!
I too have hit the walls everyone else has here as well but I have had some luck. I am still very new at bow making. I am south of Adelaide. Deyoungs salvage will sell you some re-purposed red oak floorboards I have not had heaps of success here but I was able to get a selfbow to the half brace stag...
