Re: boo backed acacia rd bow my 6th try

I glue in some deflex and a bit more reflex, after shooting the bow for sometime over a couple of days the bow settles into the profile you see in the pics...there is definately some string follow over the whole length of the limb though I try to minimise it as much as possible. Sometimes I wish I h...

Re: boo backed acacia rd bow my 6th try

Daryl from what I read the deflex part is to help with accuracy and smooth out the bow at release and the reflex to keep early draw tension good. With just reflex we get good early drawweight but its more difficult to shoot straight with the bow being a bit rough at release. I did build reflexed bam...

Re: boo backed acacia rd bow my 6th try

Hello Daryl I ended up cutting the bamboo in the center and joining the pieces together to get a 66" ntn bow....I just done the glue up today. I reduced the belly thickness of the acacia and I'm not sure what DW to expect it should be about 30 to 40# max......I'm not worried about that !!!! Jus...

Re: boo backed acacia rd bow my 6th try

Daryl thanks for the advise I'll think about it and make a decision....the boo I used had very high/thick nodes after flattening the boo evenly with the thickness between nodes a bit under 1/16" I still ended up with the boo being a bit too thick at the nodes if I reduced the thickness there I ...

Re: boo backed acacia rd bow my 6th try

Hello Daryl, thanks for your valuable insight....yes the nodes too close to the riser is a problem...for me to make a 66" ntn bow with the boo I have, I will end up like this because of the way the boo was cut....to avoid this problem I can increase the riser length and treat this portion as pa...

Re: boo backed acacia rd bow my 6th try

Re: help with fiberglass...mixing thicknesses

Re: help with fiberglass...mixing thicknesses

Thanks Bob so I'll use .004 taper 16" riser and taper from fade to tips. Do you make the lower limb shorter as measured from riser center? On my boo backed bows I started cutting the limbs using my locator point on the riser as center with the slelf cut just above and cut to 1/8" from cent...

Re: help with fiberglass...mixing thicknesses

Daryl thanks for your reply..... OK I'll go ahead and glue up a flatbow and keep the width at fades the max that should give me the max draw weight!!! Why didn't I think of that???? And using the safe glass ratio I should end up with the max draw weight and safe bow limbs that I want.... is that cor...

Re: help with fiberglass...mixing thicknesses

Thanks for your replies...I was reading on pirates of archery and one bowyer thinks the opposite is better with the .03 on the belly! Re: TWO BOWS FOR SALE

So I don't need a thermostat!!!! Re: TWO BOWS FOR SALE

. Hello Daryl, the core combination was recommended by Bingham's for a 64" r/d bow.... You use .001 taper and it obviously works for you so I'll go with what I have and see what happens...I will use a straight taper from fade to tips. My boo backed bows I made 4 of them and never got to shoot t...

I didn't know that nerve endings could be damaged!!!! I will make and use the tabs as you suggested... attached some photos of the 50# Pyramid Bow....Alas the 35# lifted a splinter on the back after I tried recurving the tips and stringing it.....nice lesson learned I think....
