Hi Nicholas. Asian butcher shops readily sell Ox tendons. They range in length anywhere from 6-10inches, this is where I source my sinew from

Hey Troy
Have made one with Aussie PVC, still works nice, but poundages aren't anywhere as good, aussie stuff has a wall thickness of 2mm at best where as the U.S schedule 40 has a 5mm? wall thickness

Why wouldn't you name them?
By not doing so you're just protecting them!. . . and allowing others to fall victim

I'm with you on that one clinglish!, in my opinion there should be two categories of traditional
Traditional Style: which would include laminated 'traditional' bows/arrows incorporating modern materials
Traditional: all true traditional equipment, no modern materials

Great looking set of tools there Joe!
I'm especially diggin that bone chisel, how do you think the sandstone will hold up? Either way I'm looking foward to seeing you craft a true primitive bow & arrows!

Re: Bow Making Wood
You'll want a few boards on hand as back ups, another thing when selecting your boards is to choose the ones that have the straightest grain throughout their length, the picture of the board on the right is the ideal grain you're looking for in a red oak board

Re: Bow Making Wood
Hi Daniel welcome to Ozbow My advice would be to get yourself to Masters and buy up a decent amount of red oak boards (if they still stock it that is!). If they have none in stock I would suggest buying a board of spotted gum and a piece of pole bamboo (about 6 inches in diameter) to use as a backin...

Ace lookin bow bigbob!, the denim has a nice contrast with the timber. Bummer about the splinter :( ... makes me wonder if a fabric backing has any real benefit, perhaps it's biggest benefit is it prevents you from punching yourself in the face if the bow fails but doesn't actually prevent the failu...

Re: Red Oak Board Bow Layout.
Looks nice so far indie, the left limb looks a tad stiff around the mid limb area but it looks like it's coming around nicely, ...I would also make a long string for the bow and string it up to a low brace height, say 3 or 4 inches then put her on the tiller & observe how she looks....slow and s...

Re: American (White?) Oak limbs
Hi scott
Are you talking about using the white oak as a lamination, or using it as a solid piece and making a 'selfbow' type limb?
I know that white oak can be used to make selfbows so I can't see it being all that bad to use.
