Don't split the Yew. Cut it with a 9'' saw or a large band saw. I leave the bark on and seal the ends and the exposed surface. You can get a bow out of a branch 1 1/2'' to 2'dia. Went for a shot with the blokes yesterday (practice for B/rat) and
I tell you the competition was fierce. Out of the 6 or so of us we
got one bullseye in a row. Stunning! Look out Ballarat.

Yes mate,
This will be a fantastic shoot. All three courses will be used and are in great condition.
Also the raffle table will be excellent thanks to some very generous people.

Andrew (Henry) McGregor is from Bendigo and is a fine archer. He also makes his own arrows from scratch.
Hand plane,shavings and all. I don't know what he was making at Lost Trades but I've seen his handmade
arrows at shoots and they are good. Nice bloke.

Daryl, I have used the bow bolt system. They work well. I don't know about a heavy poundage bow but around 50lb seems OK. Just make sure that it is positioned close to the back of the bow so that you create a heel so to speak on the belly side of the handle. Also use a really good material for the h...

Mik,.... Like Greybeard says, taper the hickory at the tips not the osage and round the edges all the way . Try and radius the belly. Nice bow.
Keep scraping/tillering until you get it to where you want it. That's the beauty of an all wood bow.
You can decrease the poundage.
