Re: Chrysalis problem with Bamboo backed Osage
Yes, I think it is a combination of things. 64'' is a bit short but that is all I had and the osage being 1/4 sawn. The osage had very tight rings and the grain was dead straight. Mid limb the osage was down to 1/4'' thick. In other similar bows where the osage was plain sawn it was 3/8'' thick mid ...

Chrysalis problem with Bamboo backed Osage
I'm having a few compression fractures (slight) appearing . Any ideas on how to keep them under control. I've done the pinholes but I'm wondering if sinew wrapping or rawhide would help. The bamboo is under 1/16'' thick and I've made a few bows with this ratio of bamboo to osage with great success. ...

Re: Log Splitting Advice Sought
Don't split the Yew. Cut it with a 9'' saw or a large band saw. I leave the bark on and seal the ends and the exposed surface. You can get a bow out of a branch 1 1/2'' to 2'dia. I have cut slats and backed it with bamboo with good results but you need to taper the bamboo off at the tips as it will ...

Re: Ballarat Bowhunters Traditional Shoot, January 10th & 11
Went for a shot with the blokes yesterday (practice for B/rat) and
I tell you the competition was fierce. Out of the 6 or so of us we
got one bullseye in a row. Stunning! Look out Ballarat.

Andrew (Henry) McGregor is from Bendigo and is a fine archer. He also makes his own arrows from scratch.
Hand plane, shavings and all. I don't know what he was making at Lost Trades but I've seen his handmade
arrows at shoots and they are good. Nice bloke.
cheers Mark

Re: Bought myself a new Toelke Whip.
Daryl, I have used the bow bolt system. They work well. I don't know about a heavy poundage bow but around 50lb seems OK. Just make sure that it is positioned close to the back of the bow so that you create a heel so to speak on the belly side of the handle. Also use a really good material for the h...

Hi Howard (Mr Moso)
Thanks for the bamboo. It will be put to good use.
I have just finished two Osage Selfbows and will start a B/B/O
soon. I have some Yew staves so if you come down to our
shoot next year I'll keep one for you .(and Perry)

Re: Spliced Osage Flatbow
Mik,.... Like Greybeard says, taper the hickory at the tips not the osage and round the edges all the way . Try and radius the belly. Nice bow.
Keep scraping/tillering until you get it to where you want it. That's the beauty of an all wood bow.
You can decrease the poundage.

Re: Where is Victorian Trad Scene going
G'day Wayne, We avoided multiple snipes and back stabs at Lilydale by having seperate classes. eg:- Modern Longbow =carbons and alloys/feathers and or vanes. Traditional Longbow= wooden arrows and feathers. Traditional Recurve = wooden arrows/feathers shot off the shelf. Modern Recurve =basically an...
