gday Dean,
Welcome to Ozbow. It is quiet nowadays but still full of info.
What's got you interested in traditional archery (if there is on thing) ? I remember my foray into buying a recurve after shooting compounds for a while was reading Saxton Pope's book on archery.

Re: Broadhead Weight to use
Ian, I tried making extreme forward of center arrows for a 40# recurve a few years back. From memory I ended up with something like 250 or 300 in the head. Like the concern you raised it made for a very short and steep trajectory. That was ok shooting at the range because I had time to judge the dis...

Hey Guy, I’ve once again found myself in beautiful North QLD and will be going after pigs this year. I’m also very keen to get onto some Chital deer but don’t know any property owners with deer on them. Will keep door knocking and see how we go. I’m getting some new Bigfoot sasquatch limbs from the ...

UPDATED LEGISLATION
Hey everyone,
There’s a new Fisheries Regulation 2019 and you’ll be pleased to hear that the bow fishing component is unchanged.
The new reference is:
Paragraph 8, Part 4, Schedule 10, Fisheries (General) Regulation 2019
A spear gun includes a bow for propelling a spear.

Bows fighting Beijing socialists?
Hey guys, there have been some stories in the news about bows being used by Hong Kong protesters. As an archery enthusiast I've been naturaly drawn to those stories. Here's a link to one at abc with a photo of a guy pointing a recurve at police. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-11-14/hong-kong-uni-s...

I second the clubs angle mate. They'll get you set up with an intro course. You'll also meet people who share the passion and get exposed to different ideas about equipment etc so you can make up your own mind. Hope it goes well! Oh I can also recommend a fella on youtube called Clay Hayes if you wa...

Re: Would Harsh Penalities Work?
Hey Darryl, I realise I'm months behind the eight ball here, but I reckon it's probably more effective to increase the rate of conviction than necessarily to increase the punishment. I think a good analogy is speeding and mobile phone use in cars. Mobile phone use comes with huge penalties but is ba...

Hey Rhino, Thanks for the taking the time to write all of that. The most concerning point of causality I find is the suggestion of rampant poaching, and from cars no less. That's pretty darned disgusting. If people are posting videos on facebook though that should be prosecutable shouldnt it? It's a...

Re: to bow quiver or not to bow quiver?
Hi Ian, I've never used a Marksman quiver although they have always looked great. I'm just recommending what I've used, which happen to be made by hard working, decent folks in the US. They're also great value. I think the Marksman is probably a great enough product with a great enough reputation to...

Re: to bow quiver or not to bow quiver?
Hey mate, I reckon the best value bow quivers getting around are from Eagles Flight in the USA: https://www.eaglesflightarchery.com/ I've got one of their 4 arrow Navajos, its beautiful, grips well and is great value. They're slightly different to standard bow quivers because the arrows arent grippe...

Well welcome back mate!
What kind of Long bow are you thinking about? Classic flat limbed or modern deflex/reflex?
If you've got a club or shop nearby there's nothing like try before you buy to see what you like.

Hey Tom,
Really enjoyed it mate. Some of the best bits were the fototage of the foxes while you were whistling. If they were stabilised so not shaky they'd be really great. Keep it up and good hunting mate.

The manufacturer sells it as a 'hybrid longbow' and he's trying to sell it. Describing exactly as the manufacturer does seems pretty sensible to me
