Re: First go at making a bow
YAY, I've finished gluing. I managed to get my hands on some titebond 3 over the past weekend. I should cut out the riser and then taper the limbs now right? how would i go about doing this?

Re: First go at making a bow
Ok I'll be gluing today. Does the riser need to be straight grained? I don't have titebond 3, but i do have Shellys pva wood glue, is fine to use or would i have to make another trip to Bunnings?
Thanks,
Smigreth

Re: First go at making a bow
Ok thanks, but I'm still a bit confused about how to thin the limbs. How and where would I make the transition from the original 19mm thickness to 12mm? I seem to have removed a bit too much material from one of the tips so the width is now about 2mm less than the other end , this isn't to...

Re: First go at making a bow
OK so I've finished cutting and sanding the shape (except for the handle), now to start tapering the thickness, is the taper meant to curve or is it just a straight line. smigreth http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff411/smigreth/Panorama1_zps7295b8ab.jpg http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff411/s...

I meant thickness,sorry
I really like the look of bamboo, but jute is cheaper and easier... So hard to decide!
Is tillerring done before backing?

Re: First go at making a bow
Should the taper be flat or should it curve gently towards the tips?
Also I'm trying to decide whether to back with bamboo or jute, foul you help me decide?

Re: First go at making a bow
Thanks it's just that I worried about messing up. It's 68 inches from tip to tip, handle is 4 inches long and 1 inch wide, fades are 2 inches long and 2.5 wide and tips are 3/8 inch wide. Would I need a riser? Also im considering bamboo backing, would I need any special bowers equipment? I've notice...

Re: First go at making a bow
I've got a bit of a problem. turns out the grain on both ends curves away there is 2.65 m between the markings I've made in the pictures. EDIT: I mean 1.65 not 2.65 i noticed this at the store http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff411/smigreth/IMG_0273_zps5feae666.jpg but i didn't notice this http:/...

Re: First go at making a bow
i got some wood today. How does it look? in one of the ends the grain curves off the board (you can just see it just start to curve at the bottom of the photo), thankfully the board is so long i can just cut that off and use the rest instead. The whole thing is about 2.6 m long and 19mm thick, but t...

Re: First go at making a bow
just realized something in the guide the guy glues the nock wedges on instead of cutting them in. would i need to make the end thicker to compensate for the material being removed or would it be ok to leave it as it is?

Re: First go at making a bow
on the bunnings website there are 2 different types of spotted gum flooring at 19mm thick. would both be fine to use? also is there any difference between flooring and decking?
