Perry that is what I did with this riser/limb attachment. I used a brass 3/8" threaded bushing designed to screw into a 1/2" hole in wood to keep the bolt from pulling through the riser. The 5/16" limb bolt slides through the 3/8" threaded hole. Here's a rough drawing of how I di...

Mick because the limb attachment bolts are at the end of the riser the riser had to be bulked up to keep them from pulling through the wood. I like the look of a slim bow myself but wanted to try this to see what happened. Need to make a new string with fast flight. Haven't had a chance to take it o...

Here's a picture of it drawn around 27". Creeped a bit before the wife got the pic taken. Feels like 48-52# and is 62" ntn. Man I've always seemed to be on the far out fringe.

Strongbow is no more

Guess I can't leave things alone. Had the longbow limb blanks that I converted to limbs for my metal riser. Well I had some rosewood and maple scraps laying around and I just couldn't help myself. Now those limbs are on a forward handled longbow. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o241/galnmax/bow%2...

I found this on TradGang and it was done by a gentleman named Art George. Sure have appreciated his work on this. I had saved this when I first found it and now I can't find it on the web anymore so glad I saved it.

Strongbow limb mounting method

Here's how I mounted the longbow limbs to my metal riser. The riser and the compounds limb rocker http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o241/galnmax/Strongbowlimbmount1s.jpg The longbow limb with holes drilled to match the rocker http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o241/galnmax/Strongbowlimbmount2s.jpg ...

Longbow Steve the original compound had the limbs attached with a set of rounded metal rockers that have two 1/4" studs that mounted in holes in the limbs. I just drilled matching holes in the longbow limbs which hold the limbs in place. I'll add some rosewood spacers on the sides of the limbs ...

Strongbow

A while back GrahameA posted his Something like a WARF. At that time I mentioned I had a set of longbow limbs I never finished laying around. I thought I'd try and mount them on my metal darton riser. Stickbow Hunter replyed "Benbow that one of yours looks alright to. If you put those straight ...

Alan is great about sharing knowledge as you are too. Thanks for this thread.

2nd Grandson's bow

After 2 failed attempts I switched to all hickory and this one's holding together. I was disappointed in the amount of set that this one picked up. Our humidity here in New Mexico is low but the glue I used is Weldwood's plastic resin glue that is mixed with water. Think that was the problem so I cl...

Graybeard you might look into changing the way you mount the limbs like the Morrison Shawnee. Here's a link. http://www.morrisonarchery.com/shawnee/shawnee.html Basically you put a T-nut into the limb and then cover it with a overlay. Then the bolt comes up through the riser. With the bolt recessed ...

Grandson's bow seems to be a shooter

I took the bow I built for my grandson out today to a new construction area that is flat and has plenty of room. I made a 24" arrow out of a 1/4" poplar dowel. I used a nock from the old thin carbon arrows that slip over the shaft and fletched it with three 2" spinwing vanes. With onl...

I have to be careful here as I love to shoot both. I love my compound that I know I can confidently kill at 60 yard ranges. It's great to have when I only have a very short time to hunt and I'm in an area I'm not familiar with. Without the knowledge of the terrain I'm not able to pull off a stalk to...

GrahameA The more you shoot it the more you'll like it. Have you had a chance to shoot some aluminum or carbon arrows through it? Your bow has really turned out great. How's your rest setup working? I had NAP plunger rest that I had laying around. It work well with the large amount of side clearance...

Mick here's a picture of the bow I posted about earlier that's based on a Darton excel riser. I took a saw to it to remove it's built-in overdraw and had a friend machine out the slots in it. I got these limbs by cutting them off an old 1-piece bow I had. Shoots great and cheap too. http://myweb.cab...

GrahameA you can get your limbs to build one from cannablized 1-piece recurves too. Here's a link to a bow built by cutting the limbs off a Groves 1-piece recurve that I put on a converted compound riser.
