Cresting jig

Nice jig there! The solution to the wobbles- i purchased a replacement rubber booted chuck for the commercial cresting jigs from 3 Rivers for a couple of bucks. It is a good system and all i did was insert a steel dowel into the chuck (6mm i think it was) and fit this to my drill with a "V"...

First recurve or traditional bow

Matt
Without knowing all your details like draw length and what you want the bow for etc - i would suggest something around the 50-55# range to get started. It will do for most anything unless you have a very short draw length.

RSPCA..bad news for bowhunting

The site for Traditional Archery Australia is http//au.geocities.com/tradarcheryaust/five.htm I know the site prvides little information on bowhunting at this point in time and as i understand the reasons for this are political. It was explained and i know it made sense but cant recall the exact rea...

RSPCA..bad news for bowhunting

What a disgrace and it is a shame that bowhunting has been tarnished by fools again. Good on you Luke for your work and thanks. Like many of us traditional bowhunters i go about my hunting without much thought for whats happening in the political spotlight. Last week at the Gathering i had along wit...

When do you hunt

Hi ET, I find for the local game the late afternoon is better as the game is a bit more likely to move off pads etc as they emerge from their beds. The morning usaually catches game following exact pads and ambushing is often the best way but this limits your options to roam around enjoying the walk...

Hi Mick. All the bows are Border of various type. That one is a 58 inch Black Douglas Ultra. Love fly fishing :) Use to fish a lot for trout until a few years ago but since moving north i have been chasing mangrove jacks from the canoe with good success. Any fish that likes to hunt is a friend of mi...

Sounds that raise your spirit

For me nothing sounds better than the sound of several mature boars settling some differences just ahead when walking through the bush with the bow. :D

The birds of the top end in the morning are equally as good. :)

On a request i have posted a few pics from last year up north. This hunting was done in the middle of the wet season and so yeah its a tad warm but quiet under foot. Jeff and Stace, i usually carry a bandage but wasnt aware how important the timing of applying the bandage was and also the fact that you can have 6 hours before you get wobbly.

I have often wondered what the plan would be should i get bitte...

Experiments with technique

I was fortunate enough to have someone point out to me when i purchased my first recurve in 1979 that i was left eye dominant (and right handed) so i went for a lefty bow. The way i see it is that i am actually lucky to have my best arm pointing the bow but on the flip side i have my weaker arm tryi...

Stringing a recurve without a stringer?

Erron Another way which works for me is to take a seat and put your knee into the rear of the site window, Lock the string on the lower tip and hold in the string groove with your thumb and have your mate place the top loop on as you pull both limbs back - careful not to catch your thumb under the t...
