Re: Sinew backed Spotted gum
Hello Perry, Its hard to say how much sinew went into the bow, it was started a few years ago, at a guess i would say 15-20 leg tendons went into it but i cant be sure as they went on in stages. the first layer was the entire back of the bow, left it dry for 3 ish weeks and took the ace bandages off...

Re: draw knife advice
Hello Yeoman, Thank you for your reply, i had a look for the Japanese rasps you were talking about, are they the ones with a honeycomb appearance? if so they do look like they would do the job, it seems you can get them with a normal rasp handle or a two hand set up, i think that will be the next to...

Re: draw knife advice
Hello all, before i even considered taking tools to wood i had done many hours of reading on making bows, it seems that no one likes the good old drawknife, everyone says that you need the blade dull for separating growth rings and roughing out a bow but i find the sharper the blade on a drawknife t...

"pick that bow" (see attached photo)
G'day everyone. I was at a shoot a week or so ago and had trouble putting my bow into a category (recurve, horse bow, longbow) it was purchased as a "Scythian bow" which tells me its a horse bow but it has no syahs and technically isn't a recurve as no part of the string contacts the limb,...

Re: Skinned Limbs
my understanding is that any animal product can come into the country if it has been disinfected. when i brought some bows into the country some had horn nocks, they were brushed with a disinfectant by customs before they were allowed into the country. i can see this as a problem for snake skin back...
