Thanks fellas, was very pleased with the results. They sold $1100 worth of raffle tickets so it was well worth the effort.

First bow in over a year
This is the first bow I have made in over a year since I had my shoulder rebuilt. It will be the main raffle prize at the Tully Invitational shoot this weekend. The woods are QLD walnut and PNG white tulip oak. The bow is 64" NTN and weighs in at 46#@28". The brace height is a little high ...

Re: Bowhunters that build their own Broadheads.
Nice work Bill and Gazza. I have had a piece of 1" x 1/8" 1085 carbon steel for about 5 years that I have been meaning to make some trade points from. I am going to drill some holes adjacent the shaft (2 each side) so I can bind it right at the tip and in the middle as well as around the h...

Re: String maker's wax
One more vote for straight beeswax. Does the job for me and it is cheap enough to use in other applications. I use a small lump to seal the end of takedown inserts so the epoxy doesn't get into the internal thread. Also use it on screw in points to prevent corrosion and are a nice rattle free joint.

Re: Reducing weight in a fibreglass longbow
The elastic modulus of Botuff is about equal for tension and compression. However the tensile strength and strain are about double the compressive strength and strain. Considering this, I always remove more from the back than the belly when trying to lose weight on a bow. Some bowyers even build wit...

Re: Joes Ancient Orange Mead
Hi woodie. Yes there is a significant difference between simple rehydration and a starter. One benefit of a starter is it prove/disproves if yeast is viable and that something hasn't happened to it that could render it inactive. I have never bothered with either but I am going to try it soon. I left...

Re: Joes Ancient Orange Mead
Hey woodie, I think a yeast starter is the norm in the mead making crowd as well (from what I've read), also with additions of GoFerm and FermAid + other nutrients to keep yeast alive in high ABV environments. I believe the purpose of this recipe is to have a really low tech starting point for begin...

Re: Ladies take-down semi-recurve
I have finally taken some snaps of the new limbs finished. It ended up 27#@28" and Robyn will probably draw it to 25#@26". I hope it is not still too heavy, but if it is I'll make a third set of lighter very basic limbs for her to build some strength and technique. Cheers, Rod RobsNewLimbs...

Darren, yes the image is mine  . I included some flats along the back of the bow to allow takedown limbs to be made from the same form. http://www.ozbow.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=16416. Oh and the finish on the bow was high gloss and it came up quite shiny. I gave it a light rub d...

Re: Project: Longbow GTR
Thank you for your kind words gentlemen. Darren, the idea to use this construction in a longbow came from a request to make a longbow but with a grip like my D/R bow has. It seems very natural and quite common in D/R design bows. I used a constant radius on the belly side of the riser so it is easy ...

Project: Longbow GTR
No, not a racing model  . My latest attempt to be a little unique is a straight laid longbow with the belly glass running through the riser (hence the GTR for "Glass Through Riser). It feels like a very stable and reliable way to use the belly glass that would otherwise be trimmed prio...

The new limbs on the tiller tree for the first time. Draw weight is 27#@28" but still needs finish sanding, so they can be made lighter yet.
