Re: Another failure.
Hi Buckler, Just my two bobs worth. i would have liked to see a picture of it braced and at full draw, but with the photos supplied i would say the handle and fades look too long for the bow and the the fade may have been too bulky to be active. this puts a lot of stress on the remaining portion of ...

Re: selfbow layout?
Clint, just what i do. i make the centre of the bow (NTN) half way between the centre of my handle and the arrow shelf. this makes the top limb about 3/4 - 1" longer and also ever so slightly weaker. i flick a centre line down the length of the bow and work out on each side from that centre lin...

Re: Split V 3 Under Pros / Cons?
i switched to three under, and while it took a long time to feel right, i wouldn't go back now to split now. i made the move because i was getting pain in my index finger shooting split for long periods. it went away instantly with three under and i was also able to instantly draw more weight shooti...

jim,
i have spent many an hour looking at how i might make two piece bows, and i have to say that your method is the best i have seen yet. i love it.
thanks for the detailed vids, they really break it down for us. i might even have to cut a bow in half one of these days

Re: some local flowers and plants
everyone warns against the 2x tele with most lenses, and the apeture on the 100-400 isn't proably low enough to suit the teleconverter but i have seen some great shots taken with that combo.....and i can't afford $15,000 for the 800mm  my only concern is that it is a slide zoom and i'm not ...

Re: some local flowers and plants
Jeff, a lot of these photos are taken close up at the full zoom (85mm) where the apeture closes down to f5.6. But F5.6 at 85mm when close up to your subject is effectively a lot shallower depth of field than f3.5 at 15mm zoom close up. another reason i got a fast lens (wide apeture) is their ability...

yes, stil the 15-85. f3.5 at wide open is fairly shallow. i also have a 50mm f1.8 but don't use it a hell of a lot.

Re: some western cape york scenery
bob, loads of tuna about these days. they are almost (not really) annoying. always a few macs to fill the eski, and the last couple of years there have been a lot of sailfish and black marlin caught.so many that this year we have just had our first Billfish comp. i missed a nice sail about a month a...

Re: Learning Digital Photography
ha, well i can't afford white, but canon make some excellent lenses without the fancy white finish, and most of my wish list is black. apart from the nice white 100-400 and 2x teleconverter.
i'd like (all canons);
10-22 wide angle
15 fisheye
135 soft focus
100 macro
and proably a tilt shift too

Re: couple of pics of a recent camping trip.
yeah the barra like them too. crocs generally get upstream of falls during wet season when the falls are flooded and they can just go around. there are not a lot of spots crocs don't get to on the cape. and you'd be shocked at how small a pond of water they need. big enough to sit in is big enough t...

Re: just a few wildlife pics
both those little lizards were great. the one sort of standing up is actually chomping on an ant (look close and you'll see his legs). the other one was eating ants and cherabin legs out of my hand. i don't have a heap of photos of him, but i got loads of video whilst i fed him for half an hour. he ...

thanks mick. jeff, yeah that was just one of those luck days. just went down the beach to run the dogs and thought i'd chuck the camera in. turned out to be a great sunset, and the combination of this with high tide, no waves, and the tree right there made for a couple of great ones. i really like t...

Jeff, i know the flash on the 7D is pretty highly raved about for it's ability both as a standard flash and for it's ability to control something like an extra 15-20 external flash units, but i'm not sure on the day light. i would expect so but would need to have a look. Hey Mick, i really like the ...
