Cape York Hunting and Fishing Safaris
Hi,
I am 41 and have been guiding for 4 years. I have my own property - "Bertiehaugh Station"- on Cape York and live and operate here.
For 1x1 guiding I charge $350 per day, 2x1 $300 each p.d. This includes everything except alcohol. I only take 2 bow hunters max.
To hunt this country each hunter needs to carry a minimum 2 litres. The biggest thing I notice with visiting hunters is the amount of camo they wear: you have to travel light and have cool clothing.
Some years I have a flood of bow hunters but this year I am booked out with no bow hunters.
My dream customer is a blond nymphomaniac who can actually shoot straight. My worst is a sports writer who could not hit a parked semi and is going to write an article on his trip.
I started bow hunting up here in about 1988 and continued on until I stared guiding. I believe this background has made it a lot easier to guide: like I tell my clients with their rifles, if you want to learn how to hunt, try a bow.
I am not an extremist however and enjoy hunting with both bow and gun, but the bow will always have a special place. I use a Bear whitetail 11 on about 55 pound with 11/32 POC shafts and 2 bladed heads. I do not use sights, release aid etc. My best boar was a 31 2/8 D.P.S.
I have a web site: www.capeyorkhunting.com.au which has a lot of photos and further info.
Regards,
Phil Bray
